Call for Posters

The CCSC Eastern Conference seeks to encourage student research by providing a forum for students to present the results of their work. Students who are current undergraduates, including those who complete their bachelor's degrees in spring of 2004, are invited to submit an abstract describing their research. Any computer-related research activity, either theoretical or applied, will be considered. Students whose proposals are accepted will be invited to participate in a poster session during the conference and may submit a final description for publication in the conference proceedings.

* May 28, 2004 is the deadline for proposals that are to be considered for presentation and inclusion in the conference proceedings. Other proposals submitted on or before October 1, 2004 will be considered for presentation but will not be published in the conference proceedings.

Overview

The poster session is an opportunity for undergraduates to present results of computing-related research and to discuss it with faculty from a variety of institutions. The research can be about any computer related activity in which the student(s) produced a solution to a problem. The conference will provide a venue for student posters, and a poster session will be scheduled during which attendees will have an opportunity to discuss your work with you. The top posters will receive awards, which will be presented at the conference banquet, and the abstracts from all accepted posters will be published in the proceedings of the conference.

Who can submit?

Any undergraduate at a college or university who has pursued a project in computing.

What to submit?

Submit an abstract describing your research. This abstract should capture the central idea of your research. It should describe the problem you researched, the approach you used, and the major results. If appropriate, include future work and references as well. The abstract should not exceed two printed pages of text, and must include the name of a faculty member as the advisor for the project. You must request that the faculty member submit a short email note supporting your submission. Approach a faculty member who knows you and is familiar with the work as soon as possible to allow them ample time to submit the email.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION:

It is expected that if the abstract is accepted, that one or more of the student authors will register for the conference and be present at the poster session to describe the research.

Poster Abstract Formatting Instructions: Poster abstracts are included in the proceedings of the conference. You will have limited time between poster abstract acceptance notification and camera ready copy submission. Therefore, we recommend that you format your initial submissions according to this format to save yourself time later.
Please note the following differences in the formatting requirements:

  1. On the title page the author information must be followed by a line with "Advisor" and the advisors name and position.

  2. The abstract is limited to two pages.

  3. Avoid all graphics in the abstract. You have limited room so concentrate on describing your research.
