Women vs. Team Gorizont
11/11/98

Tough loss for the Hounds.  I didn't get a box score, so I don't have the official stats, but I think I can give you a grip on who did well and not... stats will go up tomorrow.

GOOD:
1-2-1 Zone Press:  This again looked awesome for the Hounds.  They used it extensively in the first half, and kept the game very close, but then seemed to go away from it in the second half.  Still, I think that it will be effective this year for the Hounds.
Hewitt seems ok:  Senior PG Corey Hewitt played a lot of minutes, which is good because she has been having problems with her back.  Hopefully, it will be fully healed for opener vs MD on the 17th.
Rath:  Sophomore F Erica Rath had a good game.  She's a great shooter from 15 and in and plays very strong inside.

BAD:
Turnovers: There were a lot of them.  Some players tried to do too much, and it was hard going against an experienced Gorizont team that played VERY good defense.
Defensive quickness:  Gorizont shot like 60% from the field... not a good sign.  European teams typically have players that can shoot, and the Hounds didn't seem prepared to get out and harass their shooters.
Nervous?:  The beginning of the game was very nervous for the Hounds.  Then they went to a 2-1-2 press and looked very comfortable, and then Gorizont went to a press and the Hounds seemed confused and disoriented.  They forced Shannon Cohen to dribble through it, and then did a great job cutting off outlet passes after the halfcourt line.

OVERALL:
An unfortunate "C" for the Hounds.  This Gorizont team was good, but I don't know that they are better than Maryland.  Hopefully the Hounds will be very psyched for that game.
