Every WarCraft II player knows what it is that makes the game so great: the sound files. By itself, WarCraft II is a great strategy game, sure. But it's just the same old Orcs vs. Humans stuff until you turn on the sound. Then it's the United Kingdom vs. an army of Grovers. I think it's hysterical. So this is what I'm doing about it.
I threw this page together because I thought it would be great if everybody could hear these sounds any time they wanted, even without the actual CD in their drives. Nothing brightens up my day like hearing the ho-hum timbre of the Peasant's voice. It's a great way to relieve boredom and stress while at work. And most of them would make good event sounds for something or other . . . use your imagination. All I've included here, however, are those files with actual words in them. If you want the full collection of WarCraft II sound files, you'll need to actually buy the game.
This page uses JavaScript to play the sound files. I am opposed to Java and JavaScript on principle, but overcame my reluctance because it really was the right tool for the job. If your browser can't handle JavaScript, try the plain HTML version of this page. And fear not, I didn't actually take the trouble to learn JavaScript just to make this page. I just stole the code from someone else. And then, despite barely knowing how it worked, revised and optimized it. That's how you know I'm a CS major.
* The peon and the grunt have the same acknowledgement sounds. The only difference is that peons, when first produced, say "Ready to work," whereas Grunts say "Your command, master."
